BRAND NEW Training for 2025

Beyond Bereavement: Supporting Employees Through the Death of a Loved One

“Bereavement and grief – there is a difference! – can be extremely challenging to manage in a work context.  Many employers worry about saying or doing the ‘wrong’ thing, and how do we fit a highly personal, often messy grieving process around a ‘one-size-fits-all’ company policy?

I’ve designed this support-based training session to help HR leaders, business owners, and line managers deal with the aftermath of an employee informing them that a loved one has died – so they will know exactly how to respond and what to do.”

(Sandie Dennis, Beyond EAP Founder)

No-one likes talking about – or dealing with – death.  But bereavement isn’t going away.

In the year spanning 2023/2024, 24% of Britain’s working population experienced a bereavement.

That’s around 7.9 million people: each of whom suffered the deep, individual pain of a personal loss.  But bereavement is also expensive, costing the UK economy an estimated £23bn each year.

With figures like these in mind, isn’t it about time we started thinking about the RIGHT way to manage employee bereavement?

That’s exactly where our training comes in.

In just one hour, you will learn:

  •  The difference between grief and bereavement

  • How feelings of grief can show in the workplace, and what to do

  • How best to treat a bereaved employee

  • Using – and amending – your company’s bereavement leave policy

  • How to manage employee bereavement with fairness and sensitivity

  • The essentials of communication

The main outcome?

You will no longer fear, or shy away from, news that an employee’s loved one has died.  Instead, you will create a simple plan that meets their needs, at the right time.

The live session includes ample time to ask questions – ideal if there’s an employee you’re currently concerned about or you need more clarification.

You will also receive a comprehensive eBook, with training content and further insights, to keep on hand as an ongoing reference.
